Marketdata analysts interviewed Kailen Rosenberg, the head of Global Love Mergers in Minnesota. Ms. Rosenberg operates her matchmaking service out of her home and prefers not to divulge her address. She has been in the matchmaking business for 16 years but did not have a website until a few years ago. She serves male and female clients, with about two-thirds being male. Clients range in age from the late 20’s to the 70’s, but most are in their 40’s and 50’s.

Regarding the status of matchmaking, she claims that the recession had no impact on her business. She also claims that a lot of people are “coming out of the woodwork” to make a quick buck in matchmaking. She feels that the dating websites have actually helped independent matchmakers, since there are problems with clients being truthful online, coupled with the desire for more personal attention.

Ms. Rosenberg had also planned to form an industry trade association called The National Association of Ethical and Professional Matchmakers. She has been in contact with various state attorney generals offices around the country. Ms. Rosenberg says that there are three types of introduction services, as follows:

Ms. Rosenberg feels that Marketdata’s estimate of $200,000 per year for a typical matchmaker’s revenues is probably accurate. However, top matchmakers earn millions. Profit margins can be substantial, but there are some expenses, such as renting an office, advertising, travel, and the salaries of assistants. Most matchmakers do need an assistant and that person is usually much more than a secretary. An assistant may have a background in psychology, counseling, and business, and must be a “people person.”  These assistants often $40,000+ per year.

Kailen Rosenberg started her image/matchmaking business in 1993 and founded Global Love Mergers, Inc. in 2001. Ms. Rosenberg  has 16 years of experience and knowledge in the dating service industry and is a former professional print and television broadcast model. She is the creator, editor and founder of the Minnesota Registry, an upscale  single’s magazine. She is also the President/Founder of the National Association of Elite and Professional Matchmakers (NAEPM). Originally from Minnesota, she is happily married to her “soul mate” and is the mother of three sons.  

Ms. Rosenberg states, “My reason for creating the National Association of Elite and Professional Matchmakers was to bring a higher level of awareness and integrity to an industry that has been tainted by those who are more interested in fulfilling contracts rather than the hearts and desires of their clients. My goal is to create a higher standard of the industry, focusing on honesty, integrity and always putting the client first.”

Kailen’s process begins with a self-image and relationship readiness assessment. Each client is thoroughly prescreened, interviewed, referenced checked, has had a home visit performed, and has gone through several hours of time spent personally with Kailen Rosenberg in preparation for meeting their potential soul mate. Ms. Rosenberg has done all her business through referrals since 1999 with no need to advertise.

Process, representation and fees

The first step is spending time truly getting to know the person. The process begins with a scheduled phone interview that will last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Going over “the basics” of who you are, as well as looking for a natural chemistry between the client and Kailen professionally. “If I like what I hear, and we each desire to move forward to the next step, then, an in-person “relationship readiness/self-image assessment” will be arranged and scheduled. Following this in-person interview and consultation, we will begin to know if moving forward is still desired. If so, a “home visit” will be required and scheduled.”

Many times Ms. Rosenberg will even spend time meeting your friends and family, that is, if you choose to share this journey with those close to you. At the end of the home visit, a final “mutual” decision will be made as to whether or not to move forward in representation on this path to find your true soul mate. If you move ahead, a love and life plan will be mutually designed showing when, where, and how you are going to find that special person.

Fees:

2. In person relationship readiness/self-image assessment – local $250, Out of state - $1,000 plus airfare and expenses

3. Home visit- local $500, Out of state $2,500 plus airfare, transportation and lodging

4. Representation fee- negotiated

5. Per match fee: $250-$1000 – negotiated

6. Success/finders fee $1,000 - $5,000 negotiated

7. Engagement bonus - $5,000 - $50,000 negotiated

8. Marriage bonus - $10,000 and up negotiated
